METHOD:
* Wash and soak the rice and toor dhal together for half an hour
* In the meantime peel small onions, chop the big onion, peel garlic, cut tomato(cut it into 4 pieces) and Slit the green chillies.
* In a pressure cooker heat 2 tbsp oil or 2 tbsp of ghee or both, let the mustard seeds splutter, add turmeric powder, cumin seeds and pepper corns.let it fry for a while.
* Now add the green chillies. close with lid and Let it fry for a while. Then add onions ,garlic and curry leaves. Once the onions are translucent add the tomatoes with little salt, saute it for a minute.
* Now add 3-4 cups of water depending on the type of rice and let it come to a boil.At this point taste the seasoning in the water, the level should be little higher so that when it is cooked it is of right amount. So go ahead and add salt/ more slit green chillies.
* Now add Rice and dal. Mix it well.Put the pressure cooker lid withour whistle. Once pressure releas, put whistle and keep it in low flam for 1o min and then Switch off the stove. Then keep it for a while to cool down.
* You can even make this by simply boiling (upto adding rice and dal)everything in a kadai like how I did. Then close with lid tightly and keep it in high flame for 7 min (or half cook of rice and dal). Then make it low flame for 5 min. Then keep it in very low flame for 5 min.Tastewise both are same.
Note: This is Kongu naadu special rice(Erode,Covai). Today I served it with Brinjal thokku. Tyag loved it very much.:)
